Art Nouveau Silver Belt Buckle, Birmingham, 1897
Here we have a beautiful Victorian Art Nouveau Belt Buckle. The buckle is a scalloped oval with piercings and engravings creating the typically flowing organic feel of Art Nouveau.
The buckle was made in Birmingham by Reynolds & Westwood and dates to 1897. The firm was founded by John Reynolds and George Frederick Westwood in the mid 1890s and operated out of premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They produced a wide range of small silver items, mostly for personal use and of consistently good quality. The firm ceased trading around 1911.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The buckle is 12.2cm / 4.8ins wide and 5.5cm / 2.2ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 52.4g / 1.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the back of the buckle, are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter x for 1897 and the R & W makers' mark for Reynolds & Westwood.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the buckle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
