Arita replica of a Dutch East India Company charger An Arita replica of a 17th century VOC %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
VOC stands for the Vereenigde Oostindische Companie, the Dutch East Indies company. The company ordered a large amount of services with this and similar designs for their ships and offices around the world from Japan because wars had interrupted the normal supply chain from Chinese kilns. The orders started in the late 1660s and carried on for many years. The plate shows two phoenix chasing through camellias and pomegranates around the company initials. Many of the European officials also ended up with these services as well. Research found exactly this charger, this size and colour blue from the late 17th century and in this wonderful condition but this just cannot be any older than late 19th century unfortunately.
