American Colonial Period Staved Pine Tankard
This style of tankard is recorded as being American, Colonial / Revolutionary War period.
There are just a few of these around and many of those identified as being what they are will be sold at auction houses, sometimes reaching very high prices.
Our example is in excellent condition and a rare survivor. The staves are pine, the bands being ash which is steamed to form the shape and tight fitting overlap joint.
There is a historic 'make do and mend' wire repair to the handle. There is some minor loss to the ash near this area as clearly shown within our images.
Dimensions:
Height: 24 cm
Diameter base: 18.5 cm
Diameter top: 15.5 cm
