A pair of silver mounted Worcester pickle dishes
A really beautiful pair of First Period Worcester pickle dishes, painted with the Pickle Leaf Vine pattern and moulded, to the base, with leaf veins. The dishes themselves are superbly made and of very delicate potting.
The pattern had a long production run and, being hand-painted, the actual treatment of the design varies greatly from piece to piece. It is not a particularly uncommon pattern, but what is rare is the mounting of the items on separate silver stands. As can be seen in the photographs, the stands are beautifully made with floral chasing. To my mind, a lovely and unusual treatment of these pretty dishes.
Condition
In excellent antique condition although, of course, the dishes themselves have been pierced by the screws securing the silver stand. We take the view that the addition of the stands enhances greatly the beauty of these items and they make perfect dishes, either for display or practical purposes – the latter being particularly suited to the original purpose of these items – the placement of small pickles/mustard et cetera on the dining table.
