A Minton Secessionist Jardiniere Minton Secessionist
A Minton Secessionist jardiniere made in 1909. This item has a beautiful colour and glaze and there are no noticable chips or cracks. The Secessionist Ware was introduced to the Minton factory by the French emigre Louis Solon who had trained at the Sevres factory in France where he perfected paste on paste, the building up of layers of white clay slip producing a unique cameo effect. Louis married the daughter of Mintons Art Director and later became known as "the man who made Mintons". This vase was probably designed by John Wadswoth who carried on the Secessionist designs until 1920, after Louis left Mintons in 1905.
