A superb William and Mary period walnut cabinet, presented on a later barley twist stand that complements its stature and style. The cabinet features a cushion-front top drawer, cleverly concealed within the cornice, and a pair of cupboard doors adorned with string inlay, complete with a working lock and key. Inside, a thoughtfully arranged suite of drawers, varying in size and fitted with decorative brass handles, surrounds a central cupboard, which itself houses three additional drawers. A hidden compartment discreetly tucked into the lower section adds a layer of intrigue and showcases the cabinetmaker’s ingenuity. The associated stand is fitted with two short drawers and raised on five finely carved barley twist legs, united by shaped stretchers. The whole piece is in excellent antique condition, with minor age-related wear that speaks to its authenticity.
