Artist Biography:
Gilbert Scott Wright (24 July 1880 – 1958) was an English painter. Like his older brother George Wright, he painted hunting and coaching scenes, as well as horse portraits. Wright was one of a family of seven children, five of whom were professional artists, either principally as painters, or as illustrators. He was originally taught by his elder brother.

Gilbert Scott Wright was born in Leeds on 24th July 1880. His father was George Edward Wright (24 February 1834 – 11 November 1916), an accountant and Elizabeth Scott (c. 1840 – 31 May 1916), the daughter or Thomas Scott (born c. 1804), variously a railway engineer and a commission agent. George Edward and Elizabeth were married on 22 August 1859 in St' Jude's Church at Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.

Gilbert Scott Wright was a late Victorian painter best known for his English sporting and coaching scenes. Gilbert’s subjects included hunting, racing and polo scenes, but it is his coaching scenes, often with figures in period costume, for which he is particularly well known.

Gilbert Scott Wright art was favoured by the Royal Family which led to many commissions, including the use of Christmas cards. His work then became used for card and book illustrations. He exhibited extensively and won a prestigious award at the Royal Academy. He was known for many illustrations in the London News in 1913 of hunting scenes and country subjects. He received his award at the London Royal Academy in 1911.

In 1989, his Stage Coach from Exeter to London painting made £19,800. The popularity of Gilbert Scott Wright’s paintings remains strong to this day and his canvases are in high demand.
