This is a very attractive and rare ebonised pedestal from the Victorian aesthetic period, circa 1870. The design of the piece is most unusual and is very much in the manner of similarly designed Anglo Japanese pieces by Edward William Godwin 1833 / 86. The pedestal is a robustly constructed piece and has a gilded roundel to each side decorated with a bird on a bough. The top surface has an attractive inset tile and the base has a shelf below with spindle gallery.
The stand measures 94 cms in height.
