Silver Card Case/Stamp Holder/Aide Memoire, 1919 George V 1910s Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Here we have a top quality George V Sterling Silver combination Card Case, Stamp Holder and Aide Memoire, complete with pencil. The case is oblong with a scalloped rim and suspended on a chain with a finger ring handle. The interior is lined in chocolate brown leather with pockets for visting cards and stamps and a faux ivory writing plaque and accompanying pencil. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The case was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths A & J Zimmerman and dates to 1919. The firm was founded by brothers Arthur & John Zimmerman in Birmingham in 1879, operating from premises at Regent Place in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They later opened a second premises and a showroom in London. The firm produced a wide range of silverware of consistently good quality up until they ceased trading around 1930.

Condition is good, with just a couple of little dings in the case. The leather interior is in good condition. The hinge is in full working order and the clasp snaps shut securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The case measures 10.3cm / 4ins by 7.7cm / 3ins and is 1.4cm / 0.55ins deep. It hangs 19.7cm / 7.75ins from the top of the finger ring to the bottom of the case. It weighs in at 131.7g / 4.6oz.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the case, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the distinctive A & J Z makers' mark for A & J Zimmerman.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the case.
