Primitive Hewn Beech Shepherd's Chest 18th Century

An early primitive coffer made of hewn beech timbers, slotted and pegged in good original condition originating from Transylvania or the Carpathian Mountain area of Romania in Eastern Europe. It has a working iron lock and key, turning the key allows the lid to be opened on wooden hinges revealing an open interior with plenty of storage space for toys, board games, blankets etc. At some point in its history it was used for storing grain as some seeds were found lodged between the planks and there is even a mousehole in one of the corners of the base.
This chest could work just as well in a modern interior as in a more rustic traditional one, enhancing a hallway, a living room or a bedroom at the foot of a bed.
Dimensions: Width 96 cm x Depth 46 cm x Height 57 cm
Condition: The chest is in very good antique condition, having been cleaned, oiled (linseed) and, finally, waxed in our workshop. There is historic woodworm which has, nevertheless, been treated to be absolutely certain. The linseed oil & beeswax should also help to protect the wood for many generations to come.
Delivery: This coffer can be delivered to most places on mainland England & Wales for £60 by our usual delivery person. Please message David (07931 370372) with your postcode to confirm the delivery charge.
