John Copley (1875-1950) etching 'Vale of Severn - Midday' signed in pencil bottom centre and dating from 1947.

A view from height across a valley with fields and with rain clouds in the distance.

Yellowed handmade paper with imperfections including a hole in the bottom margin. Faint watermark of vertical lines crossed by numerous fine horizontal lines.

Dimensions: Paper Size 40 x 28.5 cm Plate Impression 25 x 22.7 cm

Condition: The paper is yellowed but so is the example in the British Museum collection so it may be a characteristic of this particular paper. The paper has numerous imperfections which are discernible when viewed against a window, and the hole near the bottom edge appears to be a natural flaw in the paper.
