This compact is suitable for use with both modern loose & pressed / solid face powder or as a handbag mirror.
It is not often that we find gold plated Stratton powder compacts. This one is beautiful. The lid is gold plated & decorated with an etched design the makers of Stratton called 'Linen' & yes it does look like linen. The very detailed roses & foliage are set off perfectly by the golden lid. Such a pleasing composition with no loss of design. The lid lifts to reveal an excellent mirror with a frosted glass border. The whole compact gilt & gleaming will not require any cleaning at all as it is protected with a layer of lacquer that will prevent tarnishing. An unused Stratton plastic sifter & Stratton silk / foam puff mean this compact may still be used with either loose or pressed powder. The interior compact is stamped 'PAT. 764126'. The waxed paper insert in the powder well is immaculate. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The base is decorated with vertical lines & tiny chevrons.
This gold plated vintage Stratton compact measures 3 1/4" & weighs 98 grams.
