Early 18th Century Welsh Oak Coffer Bach c. 1710

A charmingly small solid oak craftsman made “coffer bach” of traditional late 17th/early 18th century construction with twin fielded panels to front and back and single fielded and framed panel to each side. The whole of most attractive well balanced proportions and with a good, rich, naturally developed colour.
The twin board oversailing lid with internal oak brackets which act as hinges and allow the lid to rise and support itself. No evidence of earlier or metal ring hinges.
Lovely brass batswing decorative escutcheon with brass rivets. The brass has a really tactile feel - the surface polished so many times that the brass appears almost like a liquid.
Evidence of old worm and wear to the feet, consistent with its great age but all long since treated and dead.
This is very small little coffer – a lovely example in excellent usable condition. Peg jointed throughout and surprisingly heavy for its size.
Dimensions are:
24 inches wide at top, 20.5 inches wide at feet, 14.25 inches wide at top and 13 inches deep at feet.
20 inches high and 32 inches tall when lid is raised.
From floor to lowest edge of apron is 5 inches. I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
