Beddgelert with figures stood at Gelerts Grave.
Henry Clarence Whaite (1828-1912) was born in Manchester. His father, Henry, opened a gallery and picture framing business in the town and it was from there, that Clarence learned to paint. He went on to attend Manchester School of Art.
In about 1851 he went to Wales to paint and quickly realised that there were about 10 artists in Betws-y-Coed, David Cox being one of them, who encouraged him greatly.
