A beautifully pair of watercolours by Jan van Couver, each portraying a timeless scene of life along the Dutch waterways with his signature atmospheric touch. In one composition, a windmill stands gently silhouetted beneath tranquil skies, its motion stilled beside boats at rest along the water’s edge. Clustered merchant houses rise nearby, their forms mirrored in the still surface below. The companion piece centres on a graceful church spire, emerging among leafy trees and red-tiled rooftops—bathed in soft afternoon light and infused with architectural poise. Signed by the artist, each painting is presented in a silver-toned frame with bold orange mountboard, creating a striking visual interplay with the subtle tonality of the scenes.

Jan van Couver was the pseudonym of Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger (1836–1909), a Dutch painter renowned for his evocative seascapes and harbour scenes.
