Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Art Deco desk, constructed from figured walnut, with a glass top, ideal for the home office, circa 1930, in excellent condition.
Decorated with striking symmetrical figured walnut to the drawer fronts, the Art Deco office desk features an elegant bow-front shape design, with stepped drawer fronts. The top two drawers are narrower than the four larger drawers below.
The Art Deco desk comes with a new toughened glass top (which is in excellent condition) which enables full use of worktop on the desk. It also creates a useful storage space below, between the pedestals, for paperwork, a laptop or iPad. Each pedestals comprises four graduated drawers, constructed with solid drawer linings and butt joints. The drawer fronts retain the original turned knobs and drawer handles. The pedestals terminate on open bar shaped feet, decorated with matching figured walnut. This walnut desk boasts classic Art Deco styling in the clean angular lines, handles, feet and geometric design. This is a single piece Art Deco desk.
The Art Deco pedestal desk boasts a warm mellow colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Art Deco desk would look superb in a variety of rooms from the work place to the home office, and would suit both a contemporary or traditional home. Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress.
Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Art Deco desk, constructed from figured walnut, with a glass top, ideal for the home office, circa 1930, in excellent condition. The desk has been adapted from a dressing table. The desk is fitted with a new polished-edge toughened glass top. The desk has been cleaned and French polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and insides of drawers, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). There is no damage to the desk. The drawers retain their original knobs and handles. The drawers are constructed with dovetail joints and mahogany drawer linings, closing flush to the frame. This is a single piece desk it does not dismantle into sections. This Art Deco desk is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.

We offer free delivery to mainland England, Wales, and Southern Scotland (anywhere south of Stirling). We do not offer free delivery to locations north of Stirling in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or any British Islands off the mainland for example, the Isle of Man, Isle of White and Channel Islands. If you live in one of the areas where we do not offer free delivery, please contact us for a delivery quote before purchasing the item. Delivery times are usually 1-4 weeks depending on location we aim to deliver the majority of items within 2 weeks. All items are professionally packaged and fully insured in transit therefore, we can assure you, your items will be securely protected in transit and arrive safely with you.
Once you have purchased an item, we will contact you by email and/or telephone and provide you with a provisional delivery date, in order for you to confirm if it is suitable for you. Once you have confirmed you can accept delivery on the provisional delivery date, we will book the delivery in with our shippers and it then becomes a confirmed delivery date.
