William Barnard no.432

An early longcase clock by William Barnard of Newark .In oak case with long door with lenticle and hood side windows .The 12in square brass dial with matted centre is very attractive and very typical of Barnards work .This well known maker trained in Nottingham under Danial Tantum before setting up in Business in Newark in around 1740.He was one of the few makers who numbered his antique clocks and this example is one of his earlier ones no.432 .Examples have been seen numbered to over 1000 and its unlikly that he began at zero.
This antique clock is in perfect condition having been cleaned and serviced and the case is so very typical of Barnards work with short base,H hinges and caddy top .
A Barnard clock no 586 may be seen among my sold items .It will be seen how similar these clocks are but 586 is slightly later with no lenticle or hood side windows .
