Delightful little mid 18th.c. Welsh oak coffor bach c.1760. Less than two feet wide. Small box (internal height 6½") with a shallow pitched lid (an unusual feature) on old iron hinges and with a working lock. Plus a single drawer in the base. Simple applied moulding at the waist and shaped feet at the front and sides. Solid oak throughout. Very good condition with some earlier repairs and restorations. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Key supplied.
A form of furniture unique to Wales, coffor bach (literally small coffer) were essentially dowry chests, given to a woman when she married and traditionally passed down the generations through the female line. They were used to store small personal and valuable items.
