A stylish & unused 1950s Stratton powder compact made for Colibri, the luxury accessory company. So stylish a brand that Colibri supplied 'The Golden Gun' in the James Bond film in 'The Man With The Golden Gun'. Francisco Scaramanga played by Sir Christopher Lee has this deadly accessory. It was made from Colibri accessories - a Molectric 88 cigarette lighter, cuff links, a cigarette case & a gold pen. As you can imagine a huge & lavishly illustrated fact pack dedicated to both Colibri & Stratton comes free with this vintage powder compact.
Back to the compact - the lid is silver enamel with two gilt daisy form flowers & stems. The brass edges form a frame & all the brass gleams like new. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror is excellent & gives a perfect reflection. The original mirror sticker is in place & it reads '55 29 01'. The bezel has these patent numbers inscribed on it 'PAT 562662. 596236. 607648. FOREIGN PATS PENDING MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner case is signed 'COMPACT BY Stratton' & the inner lid is decorated with smart engine turned horizontal lines & the square cartouche is signed 'Colibri'. The compact is fitted with a self-opening inner lid that was patented by the makers - tilt the lid back slightly & the inner lid will open. The original puff & sifter are in place which means this compact can be used with modern face powder. The powder well is gilded & the whole item gives the appearance of a good quality accessory. In tune with the Colibri branding the base on this compact is adorned with the 'curled feathers' design which is seen only on the luxury range of Stratton accessories. This compact has the same dimensions as the 1956 'Miraclean (Large)'. This compact has not been used before - there are slight marks on the silver enamel - very feint wear which must have arisen from how it has been stored.
This very attractive vintage compact mirror measures 3 " X 2 1/2" & weighs 118.6 grams.
