Description:
This is a fine quality English antique shaving stand from Victorian period, circa 1870, made from solid mahogany, with a brass adjustable shaving mechanism, circa 1870, in excellent original condition. The antique shaving stand boasts a circular bevelled mirror in a moulded frame. The mirror is positionable and height adjustable a mechanism located on the back of the mirror allows it to be angled up or down, while a wooden threaded peg, set within a small turned column, can be loosened to allow the mirror to be raised up or down, and rotated, then tightened again to lock it in place. The mirror is raised on a brass pole, set within the turned column. Below, the stand features a turned tabletop, which can rotate interdependently from the mirror and includes two internal compartments, accessed by a lid on either side. The tabletop sits atop a ring turned and carved column, terminating with a reverse finial. The column is supported by the original splayed scroll legs. Although originally designed as a shaving stand, it would serve well as a makeup stand too.
The antique shaving stand exhibits a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The antique shaving stand would complement any home, especially the bathroom or bedroom.
The antique shaving stand would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
