Victorian Large Heavily Carved Light Oak Dresser
A lovely carved oak dresser. We date this dresser to the late 19th century.
The dresser sits on a stepped plinth base with recessed feet and has a stepped cornice with ornate carvings.
The dresser is supplied in two sections. The top cabinet section and the base cupboard section.
The top section features a raised two door cabinet. The doors each have lovely leaded coloured glass panels of red and green. The right hand door is fitted with a lock (key is supplied), the left hand door has a mid height catch. Internally there is a mid-height wooden shelf. Below the doors there is a carved panelled back with a small raised gallery. The top has a well turned column at the front, at each side for support.
The base section consists of a full width recessed drawer over a two door cupboard with two side hinged panelled doors. The drawer has a lovely curved shape with deep carvings and is fitted with an attractive drop handle. The doors each have attractive heavily carved panels. The right hand door is fitted with a lock (key is supplied), the left hand door has a catch from the shelf. Internally there is a single wooden shelf.
The dresser has lovely carvings throughout and a lion's head with a brass ring hanging from their mouth at each end of the drawer and cornice.
The dresser has an overall height of 92" (234cm), a base section height of 41" (104cm), a base width of 43.5" (110cm) and a base depth of 21" (53cm). The cornice has a width of 47” (120cm) and depth of 16.5” (42cm).
This lovely oak dresser remains in good solid condition with minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There are some markings inside the cupboard and a small age gap to the bottom boards.
This remains a stylish and elegant oak dresser. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
