There is also a key, which inserts into a brass pear-shaped escutcheon. The interior boasts multiple compartments, some with lids, and others which are open trays. The central tray features several open compartments and this can be removed to gain access to a central secret compartment below which is ideal for storing antique jewellery. The central tray is flanked by further open compartments, with three closed compartments. The inside of the lid features a small shaped mirror flanked by further open shaped compartments. Much of the interior is constructed for easy removal.

This box is a truly classic example from the late Victorian period in colonial India. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed is second to none. It is rare to see an example, which not only is in excellent condition but also completely original.
