John Hodgson Campbell 1855-1927 oil on board, in gilt frame. 20"x24". The picture is probably of an actor at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle where Campbell was known to paint the visiting cast on a regular basis.
Portrait, landscape and genre painter in oil and watercolour. Was born in Newcastle son of John Thompson Campbell. He trained under Cosens Way at Newcastle school of Art. He exhibited at the Royal Acadamy and the RSA. His work is represented at the British museum, Laing Gallery, Shipley Gallery and South Shields Museum.
