A very decorative and large Japanese Meiji period shodona. This wonderful display cabinet is profusely inlaid with parquetry and marquetry arranged in symmetrical and random patterns using a wide choice of coloured woods. It has an arrangement of 16 sliding doors, 5 drawers and 8 shelves with 5 shaped and fretted galleries. A very unusual feature is the opening side brackets which house 8 of the doors, 4 of which have intricate wooden grills (compare 1st. & 2nd photo.).
