Subline Wall Regulator Clock - Frodsham ,London
This is an opportunity to acquire an exceptional 10-inch silvered dial wall regulator antique clock signed Chas Frodsham, London, 838, strike/silent lever at XII, the substantial fusee and chain movement with six turned tapered pillars, dead beat escapement with jewelled pallets, maintaining power, high count trains, rack striking on a coiled gong, the backplate signed Chas Frodsham, 84 Strand, No.358, steel flask mercury pendulum suspended from the back board, the case with flat top moulded cornice, the glazed trunk door with fluted and scroll-carved sides, the interior with a silvered beat plaque signed Charles Frodsham, Clock Maker to the Queen, the moulded base with a scroll-carved corbel 157.5cm. 5ft. 2in. high (please see the wikipedia entry for information about this important maker)
This clock is part of small number outstanding fusee driven wall regulators produced by this maker during the second half of the 19th century with no two being the same.
This example is in the most wonderful original condition which has been sympathetically cleaned and waxed to reveal all the original finish which has a high shine and excellent colour.
The engraved dial retains its original silvering and finely cut heart shaped hands.
It is the overall quality of this item is very impressive in that the inside of both doors and the masking are veneered in the same high quality walnut as used on the front of the clock - even the top of the case is veneered likewise ! Please note the two brass hood locks on the hood that have been recessed in the case.The sides of the case are panelled in walnut
The corbel shaped base is carved from solid timber.
The 8 day duration double fusee movement strikes the hours on a gong and is of the very finest quality as would be expected from this most eminent clockmaker and has been professionally serviced .
The mercury steel flask pendulum is of typical Frodsham design and is in good functioning order. It swings above a very finely engraved beat plate that has a scale both at the front and on the top
We have been very careful to retain as much originality as possible when preparing this clock for sale and are certain that it will delight the most discerning buyer. However , if the buyer requires the dial re-silvering this can be done at no additional charge
It is 15 inches wide across the top moulding and 11 inches wide at the door . The maximum depth is7 1/4 inches . It will delight the most discerning of clients.The colour and finish is exemplary.
At the full asking price I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge in England , Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. A 12 months guarantee will be provided under these circumstances.
If a lesser offer is accepted the transaction will be considered a trade sale with the clock sold as described and the delivery / collection costs the responsibility of the buyer.
