Still Life with Crockery by Meryl Watts
Oil on canvas.
Signed with studio stamp verso.
Meryl Watts (1910-1992) was born in Blackheath, London and attended Blackheath School of Art. After her fathers' printworks was bombed in 1940, the family left London and rented a house in Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, where they had spent many happy family holidays in previous years. It was here, that they became friends with the Williams-Ellis family of Portmeirion.
Most of her known artwork is from the period when she lived in Wales, the 1940's-1969. She was best known for her skills as a woodcut artist, although she also produced scultures and paintings in both oil and watercolour.
Meryl exhibited at The Royal Academy and all around the world, for The British Council. Thank you for viewing our stock. If you require any additional information or photos, please do not hesitate to ask.
