A super hallmarked sterling silver Art Deco powder compact. This loose powder compact was assayed at Birmingham in 1939. The compact has been very well looked after & it will make an impressive gift. The lid & base have very attractive guilloche engraved designs and they are without any damage. The lid has an rectangular cartouche inscribed 'M B.' All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a clear and accurate reflection. The sifter is in place and so this compact can be used with loose face powder or as a handbag mirror. The compact is hallmarked 'lion passant' (sterling silver) and the date year 'P' the Birmingham Assay date letter for 1939 (image five). Measures 3 1/2" & weighs 98.2 grams.
