Smith Console In Mahogany With Marble Top.

Description: Smith Napoletana console in mahogany feather with maple inlay grafts.
The marble top rests on a band under the top inlaid with motifs of racemes and griffins and is in turn supported by four balustrade feet having a neo-Gothic shape typical of the period to which it belongs.
In correspondence with the four columns there are bearing feet surmounted by the same inlay shown in the band under the top.
George Smith: Owner of a large cabinet-making workshop in London and active between 1804 and 1828, famous for having published an album of engravings entitled "A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture" in 1808, some scholars put forward the hypothesis that the "Smith" Neapolitan furniture was inspired by the designs of George Smith.
