Original frame with some damage.
Franz Hoepfner (1853-1893), moved to England after serving in the Franco-Prussian war.
After marrying in Bristol in 1879, he moved to and settled on The Isle of Man. He completed and exhibited a series of Manx views, whilst there.
By the time of his death he was living in Liverpool. He was known for his volatile personality and for carrying a revolver. He was arrested after challenging a doctor to a duel (he considered him responsible for the death of his wife). Shortly after, he commited suicide.
He is best known for his atmospheric oil paintings and large scale Manx landscapes. Thank you for viewing our stock. If you require any additional information or photos, please do not hesitate to ask.
