A rare & very beautiful 1957/58 Stratton silver plated 'Queen with complete inner lid' compact. This model was only known to have two years of availability. This model has gilt edges with fine engravings which include Tudor roses. The main part of the lid is silver plated. The central blank central cartouche & the clam-shell like radians have the appearance of the classic Art Deco sun. This is a high quality vanity from the luxury range of Stratton powder compacts. The 'Queen with complete inner lid' is the largest Stratton compact with indented edges. The case has acquired a glorious deep golden patina. The bevelled mirror is excellent. The inner lid is decorated with the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo showing this compact is fitted with a self-opening inner lid. Just tilt the mirror back slightly & the powder well lid will open. This device was invented & patented by the makers to prevent ladies from breaking their nails. The automatic self-opening lid still works perfectly. The original sifter is in place which means this compact can be used with modern face powder. The base is decorated with the famous all over star pattern.
This magnificent & very beautiful powder compact measures 3 1/3 " wide & weighs 128.6 grams.
