Silver Cream Jug Peter Ann & William Bateman 1801
Here we have for sale fine quality early Nineteenth Century George III period hallmarked sterling silver cream jug by the highly regarded silversmiths, Peter, Anne & William Bateman, who were particularly well known for the beautiful quality bright cut decoration.
The jug is of helmet form with has an applied reeded border, reeded loop handle and exquisite quality hand engraved bright cut decoration with period monogram surrounded by a laurel leaf cartouche.
The details are as follows:
Silversmiths: Peter, Anne & William Bateman
Assay Office: London
Date mark: 1801
Height: 9.5cm
Width of base: 5.5cm
Weight: 111 grams
Condition report: In overall good condition, however there there has been an old repair/ split to rear of the jug where the handle had been broken and then repaired (please see attached photos) the jug the has the usual age related scratches and marks. The jug is now sound and fully repaired. Despite the repair, the jug is an elegant example of Georgian Bateman silverware
