Circa 1900, good set of 10 Chippendale style mahogany dining chairs. The set of consists of 8 side chairs (4 slightly taller and 4 shorter with a very slightly differently carved back) and 2 armchairs. The open ribband carved backs are surmounted by a foliate carving and have a very stylish central vase. Each of the chairs has a drop in seat pad upholstered in leather. Beneath this is a deep apron and the side chairs have a carved gadroon edging on the front and sides. The armchairs have shaped arms with carved acanthus leafs on the front and are held in place by a curved upright. The back legs are square and outswept and the front legs have carved acanthus quarter brackets and a wonderful cabriole leg finishing on ball and claw feet.

4 chairs 100cm high x 57cm wide x 47cm deep.
