Scottish Silver Quaich Brook & Son Edinburgh c1923
A very nice, good quality, Sterling Silver Scottish Quaich made by Brook & Son of Edinburgh.
The firm of Brook & Son was established in 1891 and traded until 1941, trading from their premises at 87 George Street, Edinburgh (these premises now the home of Hamilton & Inches). Brook & Son are well known for making reproductions of the Roman treasure hoard found at Traprain Law Hill, Edinburgh.
A very nice, plain silver Quaich with no engravings nor personal inscriptions. Unusually, there is a glass silver liner enabling the quaich to be used as a dish for other items without fear of scratching the silver.
The Quaich was assayed in Edinburgh, it is hallmarked with the maker's mark "B&S" for Brook & Son, the Scottish thistle Sterling Silver mark, the Edinburgh castle town mark and date letter "S" for 1923/24. Also stamped to the underside of the base Brook & Son, 87 George Street, Edinburgh.
The Quaich measures 3 1/2" inches (90mm) in diameter (across the bowl) and measures just over 5" inches (130mm) in width across the lugs.
The weight (excluding the glass liner) is 87.0g/3.06oz/2.79ozt.
It is in excellent condition. Specialists in Antique Pocket Watches & Vintage Wristwatches, Jewellery, Silver (including Scottish Provincial),Good Quality Antiques & Works of Art.
