Sawtell of Bristol Moon Phase Longcase Clock
An early Victorian Bristol moon phase longcase clock. A swan neck hood pediment with an original brass central finial and brass patterae. Brass capped fluted hood side columns. An oak case with mahogany crossbanding and line inlays. Fluted trunk side columns and a mahogany panel. A raised mahogany crossbanded panel to the base. An attractive arched painted dial with gilt corners and lunar moon phases to the arch. A seconds dial and date aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. Circa 1840.
Edwin Sawtell is listed in A J Moores 'Bristol Clockmakers' book having worked at the Horsefair and Bridewell Street in Bristol from 1838.
