A Georgian period longcase clock. An oak case with mahogany crossbanding. A swan-neck hood pediment surmounted by a brass finial. Corinthian capped hood side columns and chamfered fluted case trunk sides. A well proportioned case standing on the original ogee bracket feet. A circular painted dial flanked by birds and foliage with a seconds dial. Blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
Samuel Hill of Sheffield is recorded in Baillies 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1781-1811. The circular dials were often seen in this area.
