Ruef Signed Black Forest Bear Stick Stand


Another superb quality and naturalistically carved 19th.Century linden wood bear umbrella, stick stand with glass eyes, painted teeth and tongue. The umbrella support of typical branch form with inset metal drip tray. It is rare to find signed Black Forest carvings, this bear signed Ruef and very similar to the other bear we have for sale. This one slightly larger.
The Reuf Brothers were based in Brienz, Switzerland a small town with a population of 2400, of whom 600 people were employed as woodcarvers, to supply the tourist trade to Switzerland with mementos of the Grand Tour.
