Rosewood & brass inlaid bracket clock by Frodsham
A nice example of a quality Georgian bracket antique clock by this maker of repute, with a particularly attractive painted dial.
The case has fine rosewood veneers, the shallow canted top surmounted by a brass flaming urn finial. Below, it has brass inlay to the canted corners and inlaid brass patterns of flowerheads, scrolls and quatrefoils, the sides with fish-scale brass sound frets and carrying handles.
The original signed painted Roman dial has a minute track framed by sprays of flowers to the corners.
Matching gilt moon hands.
The twin fusee movement has an anchor escapement, and is rack striking on a bell. It is signed to the dial Frodsham, Gracechurch Street, London. There is a trip repeat cord to repeat the strike of the last hour.
Dated c.1830.
Height 16 inches (41cms)
John Frodsham was known to be working from 33 (31) Gracechurch Street, London from 1823-53.
