Regency Gilt Black Painted Pine Waterfall Bookcase

Of generous proportions, the Regency period parcel gilt and black painted pine waterfall formed bookcase having five graduated open shelves with brass mounts, fitted with two lower drawers and raised on bun feet.
The bookcase is in very good overall structural condition and there are no issues with stability. The gilt highlights have been re-touched at some point and it is not clear how old the black top coat is, though it certainly isn’t contemporary. There is some paint run to the sides but the whole displays a pleasing decorative, slightly distressed feel. The bun feet and handles are original, with the feet showing a small amount of old woodworm.
Waterfall bookcases were introduced in the Regency period and the form flourished as part of the overall classic and elegant aesthetic.
A particularly impressive statement piece of dramatic aesthetic and one that is as useful today as it was two hundred years ago.
