Regency Faux Rosewood Washstand Regency faux rosewood %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A pretty washstand circa 1820/30 and surviving with its original faux paint finish in imitation of rosewood.

Constructed from softwood and artificially grained to look like a far more expensive timber. So much antique pine antique furniture over the decades has been stripped and waxed to find an untouched piece in original condition is quite remarkable.

The swirling grain pattern of rosewood has been skilfully recreated with the characteristic purple/browns and sweeping black streaks of the real thing. Painted line detail throughout and the front legs have been constructed to resemble bamboo.

After nearly 200 years there is as to be expected some evidence of previous use. To the base of one of the legs there is some minor, historic woodworm that we have treated ourselves as a precaution.

Overall a fantastic survivor of a bygone era ready to be enjoyed again.
