Rare French Silk Textile Fragment Jean Revel c.1730 Jean Revel Antique Textile Textile %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A Rare & Highly Unusual Antique Textile Fragment.

This gorgeous embroidered panel - a silk brocade - is believed to be French and dating to around the mid 1730's. It is attributable to Jean Revel (1684 - 1751).

The design is unusual and curious, featuring a mirrored pattern of heavy textile swags / drapery, treasure chests, garlands of flowers, foliage, geometric devices and, positioned centrally, a curved building of classical design and proportions.

The woven design is presented against a 'flat' silk ground, the colour of which, depending on the light, shifts between a pale metallic sheen to a rich / deep bronze. I have tried to illustrate this colouration in the photos.

A stunning piece of exceptional quality, it is comparable to those Jean Revel textile fragments held by major museums and institutions, including for example, The Met Museum (see Accession number 33.81), The Art Institute of Chicago (see Reference Number 1983.168) and The Victoria and Albert Museum (Accession Number T.187.1922)....all of which are dated to around the mid 1730's.

This textile is has been well-framed and is mounted behind glass. It has been photographed out of the frame and under natural light. It is taped at the margins only and therefore is removable if desired.

The price is fully inclusive of UK delivery (FRAMED) and to international buyers (UNFRAMED). If you are overseas and would like the piece sent IN the frame, that is very possible, however please contact us first so that we can calculate the cost of shipping the whole item. Thank you.

A lovely piece of great decorative appeal and a sound addition to any early French textile collection.
