Rare & Huge Vintage Enamel Pendant Gas Lamp Light
A Spectacular & Rare Vintage Pendant Gas Lamp
Made by GEC and dating to around the early post-war period, this massive and imposing lamp was originally gas-fired but was subject to a sympathetic conversion to electricity several years ago, when it was originally salvaged.
It has been in storage for some time and the modest cleaning / restoration it originally received has now weathered down to give the most fantastic patina - not over-cleaned nor too shiny yet suitably improved in look from its original industrial application.
This is a knock-out, show-stopping industrial lamp that would make a stunning lighting feature in the home. I imagine it illuminating a porch, an entrance hall, or perhaps suspended relatively low, over a large table in the main living space.
The construction is of steel, solid brass and it is complete with the original green and white enamelled reflector. The original cut glass shade is also still there.
It does have some faults. There is some loss and cracking to the inner white enamel reflector (two areas of which have been touched in with white paint in the distant past) and also some discolouration to the white flared rim. But these are forgivable and very consistent with enamelled lamps of this vintage. It remains an impressive object and a rare survivor.
