This is an absolutely charming and unusually small Dutch oak bureau possessing a warm honey colour and dating from the early 18th Century. It was presumably made for a child.

The sloped fall opens to reveal six small drawers which pull open on turned wooden knobs and a storage area with a sliding lid. The three long drawers are oak lined and slide on side as well as base runners.

Dimensions: Width at top 64 cm (max width including feet 78 cm)
Depth at top 42 cm (mx depth including feet 47 cm)
Height 84 cm (33")

Condition: It is in good condition given its age but there are a number of repairs. New back feet have been nailed to the worn original feet and there is a large repair to the slope fall around the escutcheon. The brass handles and escutcheons are not original but they are in a style which is in keeping with the age of the bureau. A thin ply base board has been attached underneath the base which we have left intact as it is a good dust barrier for the drawers above. The thick oak back boards appear to be original.
