Queen Anne Walnut Bureau Bookcase


A glorious Queen Anne/George I double dome topped walnut bureau bookcase with original upper mirror plates and well fitted interior with secret drawers. In very good original condition and of wonderful colour and proportion. Original long oak candle slides and deep walnut crossbanding to sides of upper and lower case.
The principal drawers and interior drawers featherbanded and the walnut of fabulous well matched flame and all finely oak lined with dovetailed joints and in sturdy original condition.
Secret drawers include two small drawers hidden behind a sliding panel inside the central cupboard and two further secret compartments are concealed in the two columns flanking the cupboard.
The whole is oak lined with original drawer linings and backboards, bracket feet are original also, engraved brass handles are replacements but early of good quality and attractive soft wear.
Mirror plates with good relection and silver grey hue, in two parts as is correct for period. Olive green leather skiver, in new condition with chantilly gold tool edge.
Rich colour to the interior with some pollard walnut and fine quality cabinet work. A very practical, rare and beautiful piece dating from around 1720, English, and acquired from a private estate family collection.
