An intriguing early 19th.c. portrait of a young lady in ermine robes. In oil on canvas, indistinctly signed but dated 1832. The sitter is not identified though her costume would suggest a high status. Ermine was a badge of royalty and as such would only be worn by ladies of the highest social status on royal or state occasions. Indeed this may well be an English Countess or Duchess pictured in her robes for the 1830 coronation of King William. Presented on the original stretcher in a good carved and gilded frame. With one earlier repair and two very small areas or damage to the left of the sitter, otherwise excellent condition. Please contact us for more images, delivery and shipping quotes.
