RICHARDSON PEYTON , GLOUCESTER Circa. 1765
A good quality Georgian Gloucestershire longcase clock. The original caddy hood pediment surmounted by 3 gilded wooden finials. Gilded front and rear hood columns. Unusual parquetry trunk door inlays and a raised plinth panel and stepped moulding. A golden oak case of good proportions. A brass and silvered dial with date and seconds indicators. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
Richardson Peyton of Gloucester is well documented and illustrated in Dowlers' 'Gloucestershire Clock and Watchmakers' book. He is noted as a 'maker of fine clocks' and an example is in Gloucester City Museum. He is noted as working from c. 1740-1774.
