Pair Victorian Cut Glass Salts with Silver Rims 1899
This is a very smart pair of late Victorian Cut Glass Salts with Sterling Silver rims. The rims are hallmarked for William Corke, London, 1899. Very few examples of William Corke's work are known and they span just a few years from 1898 to 1902 so these are quite rare items.
The main bodies of the salts are hobnail cut glass and the bases have a toothed edge. The silver rims have a small beaded decoration around the outside.
The salts have definitely seen some use and one of them has a small crack near the bottom of the bowl. It is smooth to the touch and remains usable. The silver rims, as is often the case, have a couple of small dings. These defects are reflected in the price. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salts are 5.8cm / 2.25" in diameter across the top and stand 3cm / 1.25" high.
The hallmarks on the side of the rims show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "d" for 1899 and the WC makers' mark for William Corke.
