copper engraved print with orig. hand colouring plate size 39 x 45 cm Latin text on verso. fold as issued add. creases some parallel to c'fold c'fold strengthend on verso evenly toned with some soiling and staining edges slightly frayed some expertly rep. marginal tears not affecting image o/w vg cond.

Beautifully engraved double portrait of Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) and his successor Jodocus Hondius the elder (1563-1612), sitting together at a table and surrounded by maps, books and globes.

The engraver, Colette was the sister of Pieter van der Keere and wife to Jodocus Hondius who she succeeded in business after his death in 1612. Payment can be made with cash, cheques, money transfer, PayPal and most credt/debit cards.
