Maple & Co mahogany lady's writing desk

I love antique furniture by Maple & Co, particularly Edwardian antique furniture. It is not just that it is such good quality, as indeed you would expect from furniture makers and retailers who were just so expensive, it is also that it was all so very smart. Maple & co really came in to their own in the Edwardian period. Gone were all the heavy Victorian designs and in came simple opulent smart inlaid designs for the modern London man about town.
I went to a top end antiques fair a few months ago (to drool not spend!) and one exhibitor was selling just Maple & Co Edwardian furniture. It was all restored out of its tiny mind and he was asking eye watering prices for each piece but you have to concede the furniture was beautiful. You could have put that same furniture in a country house or modernist box. It would have suited both because it is so unfussy.
This desk has all the characteristics you would want in a Maple & Co piece. Look at the quality of the dentil inlay around the leading edge and the lower tier. Look at the quality of the gilt ormolu drawer handles. Look at the opulence of the original tooled leather top. The desk stands on fine tapering legs terminating in original brass casters. The mahogany retains its rich lustre.
The desk is in good antique condition. Minor marks to leather. Drawers run well. Maple & Co stamped on drawer edge.
This is a lovely elegant desk for country house, or modernist space.
The Maple and Co desk is 48 inches wide and 23.5 inches deep and 30 inches high.
