This is a very fine and impressive gilt brass mounted quarter chiming bracket antique clock verge bracket clock the eminent maker John Taylor who worked from Gloucester Street , London who was renowned for making bracket antique clocks and several of his clocks are illustrated in several horological refereence books.This clock would date circa 1780 .
The 6 pillar triple fusee movement retains its original verge escapement and has a beautifully engraved back plate depicting an urn with flowers , scrolls and foliage and has Taylors typical double line engraving around the edge It strikes each quarter on a peel of 8 bells and each hour on a bell with the facility of pull quarter repeat . This can be silenced by a strike / silent dial in the arch . Additionally there a a sweep hand for the calendar with is engraved around the centre of the dial.The hands are original.
The inverted bell top case is quite magnificent in its style and construction and uses the finest flame mahogany veneers . The gilded mounts are again of excellent quality and the top ofthe case in surmounted by 5 pineaplle shaped finials. The sides and front of the case have hand pierced fretts above which are carrying handles . The rear door is glazed
The arched silvered brass ring and spandrel dial has a solid dial centre engraved with the makers name and calendar. The clock is in perfect working order having being restored by a master clockmaker
As can be seen from the images this clock is in excellent condition throughout and is ready to be displayed in the home.The mahogany case uses the finest veneers case and has a lovely colour and finish.It will delight the most discerning client.
This is an impressive clock being is 24 inches tall . The width is 15 1/2 inches and the depth 9 3/4.
