Louis Philippe Period Walnut & Black Slate Commode

The good quality Louis Philippe period rich walnut carcass with a fabulous overall colour, the shaped French polished black slate top over a typical continental arrangement of a frieze drawer with burr walnut veneer over three long matched walnut veneered drawers, each with walnut circular escutcheons, the whole standing on scroll bracket feet and surviving from the second quarter of nineteenth century France.
The condition proves sound overall. The drawers glide smoothly, the whole proves sturdy and in good original order with a super colour. The bracket feet are original, whilst the escutcheons are original and the key works the lock for the top drawer and acts as the pull for the remaining drawers. There is some old sporadic woodworm to the flanks, back-boards and feet which have been treated as a precaution and it has not proven to be effecting the pieces stability or much of its aesthetic. We have waxed her to retain the current patina and finish.
Louis Philippe (1773-1850) aims to seduce the French population with his liberal ideas. The decorative style bearing his name infuses a similar spirit with its functional and economical characteristics suiting a bourgeois comfort. Louis Philippe antique furniture is heavy and lacks originality: industrialisation mass-produces the pieces that, therefore, present little adornments. The style imitates many past periods which announces the upcoming Second Empire style.
Super smart and sexy.
